imagery, if so.

first attempt at picture posting - isn't it terrible when you know how to do something you want to do, but aren't aware that the method you know to use is the correct one and will work, and you simply don't try until finally, out of sheer boredom you try, and it works? damn.

Columbia, MD

Let's pretend that Columbia, M.D. is the name of the star of a bad television hospital reality show: "Dr. Richard Columbia, M.D.". Somehow, I think that would be a lot more interesting than the city, in which I'm stuck for 2 days. BUT, Montreal is next - which should completely make up for it (unless I hype it to the point of exhaustion).

Sitting in the bus, day off, not sure what to do yet but definitely not just drink... we'll see what happens...

9,545 ft. and wheezing

So i've been in berkeley, LA, and now telluride, CO. the air is thin, making it strange to breathe and lift heavy objects. it is nice, however, to be in a state that doesn't hate smoking (like california), regardless of whether or not it actually is harder to smoke...

here's an old post that i wrote when i was in LA, but couldn't post due to lack of internet service:

i woke up this morning to find out that our tour bus had been parked in the hotel parking lot in los angeles for a few hours already, and that we wouldn't be able to check in until 12:00 pm. This was a relatively disturbing discovery, despite the fact that I had known it was coming. I needed a shower badly, and it was nearly torture to be so close to the hotel with no opportunity for indulging in that wonderful watery excess. so i walked with chris to find cigarettes, and almost surprisingly we had quick success - with american spirits, nonetheless. After we were finally able to check in and shower, we walked to a bar/restaurant that is apparently a "roadie must" - some place with "beans" in the name, sounding almost like a coffee shop. I was actually quite unimpressed, mainly because of the service. After eating, I had a bourbon and gradually felt myself slipping into a very tired state, so I walked back to the hotel and took a nap. I was originally going to write about LA - how isolating it is, and how lonesome it feels - like a barren wasteland. Everything is so spread out and the empty space between the buildings seems to vast, with flashy cars speeding by like tumbleweeds in the desert. Maybe that's the appeal - it resembles the southwest before settlement. Wow, that's a bad rambling...

off to the gondola down the mountain...

keys...

So my day mainly consisted of taking one of THESE apart and repairing a broken key...and I was successful! Pat me on the back. Anyhow, in about 12 hours I'll be boarding a bus that I won't leave until I get to Berkeley - quite exciting. Luckily, we'll have internet access during the drive, so look for udpates HERE and HERE. Looks like I could finally be getting my shit together, as far as websites go... Bored? Check out The Santa Fe Center For Photography. I was a finalist this year for their annual Santa Fe Photographic Award, which means I get the opportunity to attend Review Santa Fe, an amazing Photography "Convention" of sorts - I'm looking forward to it.
can't sleep.

Sat-on-Day Night

Tired. Lots of scanning - mainly band pictures (Wilco and Minsk). I need to get a Digital SLR to make band shooting much, much easier. I feel like going out, like drinking, but the tiredness seems to be consuming me. I have a feeling though, that I'll get roped into it. Anyhow, this is useless babbling - not what I intended for this weblog. Bought more records this week - I'll explain later. Scanning those negative and transparencies really made me want to get back in the groove of making work again. Coupled witht the exhibits and critiques that I saw this week, I'm teeming. Hopefully when I get back from this month-long tour, I'll be able to do swing right into it. If i figure out how to post photos on here, the two (probably an overestimation) people who look at this will see something nice.
